1most の基本的な用法

most の本質
mostは「大部分の」という意味で、具体的な集団を指すときはmost of + 冠詞/所有格/指示語 + 名詞の形を使います。一般的な話ではmost + 複数名詞を使います。
most の用法

2almost の用法と混同しやすい表現

most と almost の混同
✗ Almost students came to the party.
✓ Most students came to the party.（大部分の学生）
✓ Almost all students came to the party.（ほとんど全ての学生）

almostは副詞なので、直接名詞を修飾できません。「ほとんど〜」と言いたいときはalmost allを使います。

almost のネイティブ感覚
ネイティブにとってalmostは「もう少しで完全に」というイメージです。99%に近い感覚で、most（60-80%程度）とは明確に違います。almostの後には形容詞、副詞、動詞が続くのが自然です。
I almost missed the train.
危うく電車に乗り遅れるところだった。
Almost all the students passed the exam.
ほとんど全ての学生が試験に合格した。
The work is almost finished.
その仕事はほとんど終わっている。

all / both の基本パターン

allとbothでは、ofがあってもなくても意味は同じです。ただし、代名詞の前ではofが必須：all of us, both of them

4主語と述語動詞の一致

「of A」における動詞の一致
most of A, all of A, both of Aが主語のとき、動詞はAの部分に合わせます。これらの語自体ではなく、ofの後ろの名詞が動詞の単複を決めます。
なぜAに動詞を合わせるのか
ネイティブの感覚では、most of the booksで実際に動作をするのは「本たち」です。mostは単なる「量」を示す語なので、動詞は実際の主体であるbooks（複数）に合わせるのが自然なのです。
動詞の一致でよくある間違い
✗ Most of the water are polluted.
✓ Most of the water is polluted.（water = 不可算名詞）
✗ Both of them is coming.
✓ Both of them are coming.（them = 複数）
Most of the students were absent from class.
学生の大部分が授業を欠席していた。
All of the money has been spent.
そのお金は全て使われてしまった。
Both of the answers are correct.
その答えは両方とも正しい。
Most of the information is reliable.
その情報の大部分は信頼できる。
