比較級を強調するにはmuch / far / even / still / a lotを使う。これらは比較級の前に置いて「より一層」「はるかに」「さらに」という意味を加える。「very / so + 比較級」は不可。

2各強調語のニュアンス

ネイティブの感覚
muchは「量的な大きな差」、farは「距離的な隔たり」、evenは「予想以上」、stillは「さらなる変化」、a lotは「大幅な違い」を表す。それぞれ異なるイメージから比較級を強調している。
ニュアンスの違い
The test was much harder than I expected.
試験は予想よりもかなり難しかった。（量的な差）
Tokyo is far bigger than Osaka.
東京は大阪よりもはるかに大きい。（規模の隔たり）
This problem is even more serious than we thought.
この問題は思っていたよりもさらに深刻だ。（予想超え）
The situation is getting still worse.
状況はなお一層悪化している。（継続的変化）
入試のコツ
比較級の強調語の中でもmuchとfarは特に頻出。どちらも「はるかに」と訳せるが、muchは量的、farは距離的なイメージで使い分けされる。

3very/soが比較級に使えない理由

間違えやすいポイント
This problem is very more difficult than that one.
This problem is much more difficult than that one.

veryとsoは原級（普通の形容詞）を強調する語なので、すでに変化している比較級とは相性が悪い。

ネイティブの感覚
veryは「その状態自体が強い」ことを表す。しかし比較級は「AとBの関係」を表すので、very（状態）とは論理的に合わない。比較級には「差の程度」を表す語（much/farなど）が自然。
正しい使い分け
She is very smart. （原級）
彼女はとても賢い。
She is much smarter than her brother. （比較級）
彼女は兄よりもずっと賢い。
This car is so expensive. （原級）
この車はとても高い。
This car is far more expensive than mine. （比較級）
この車は私のよりもはるかに高い。

比較級の強調問題では、選択肢に「very」や「so」があっても惑わされないこと。比較級には必ず「much, far, even, still, a lot」のいずれかを選ぶ。特に「much」は万能で最も安全な選択。
